When I overheard my husband mocking how much I\u2019d aged since our wedding, I decided to give him an anniversary gift he\u2019d never forget. He thought he\u2019d outsmarted me, unaware that his biggest mistake was yet to come.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Five years ago, when Elias and I married, he couldn\u2019t keep his hands off me. He brought flowers for no reason, kissed me while I cooked, and called me the most beautiful woman he\u2019d ever seen.<\/p>\n

But somewhere between raising two children and working full-time from home, everything changed.<\/p>\n

Our oldest was three, and our youngest was eighteen months. Between preschool drop-offs, laundry, meals, cleaning, and sleepless nights, I barely found time to shower.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Elias slept eight hours a night, spent two hours at the gym most evenings, and played video games on weekends.<\/p>\n

Lately, he\u2019d begun criticizing my appearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re looking tired again. Maybe you should get more sleep.\u201d<\/p>\n

I usually ignored him. I didn\u2019t have the energy to argue.<\/p>\n

Three weeks before our fifth anniversary, Elias invited his friend Vance over for beers.<\/p>\n

They sat on the patio while I washed our youngest\u2019s bottles in the kitchen. The window was open.<\/p>\n

\u201cGot anything special planned for your anniversary?\u201d Vance asked.<\/p>\n

Elias chuckled.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably just pizza.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then he added:<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, man, if I met her today, I wouldn\u2019t even ask her out. She\u2019s aged so much in just five years.\u201d<\/p>\n

I froze, gripping the bottle brush.<\/p>\n

Eventually, I finished washing the dishes and went upstairs to put our children to bed.<\/p>\n

That night, Elias asked why I was unusually quiet.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust tired.\u201d<\/p>\n

He rolled over and fell asleep while I lay awake, staring at the ceiling for another hour.<\/p>\n

By morning, I\u2019d decided exactly what to give him for our anniversary.<\/p>\n
