Six months earlier, my company had promoted me to regional fraud investigator. Vehicle-title fraud, forged financial documents, fraudulent transfers\u2014I dealt with them constantly.<\/p>\n

And Madison hadn\u2019t just taken my keys.<\/p>\n

She had apparently opened the locked drawer in my office.<\/p>\n

I knew because the drawer holding my vehicle documents sat slightly crooked.<\/p>\n

I walked inside and opened it.<\/p>\n
