I stared at him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout three years ago, before we became friends, someone brought birthday cake into the office.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then I remembered.<\/p>\n

Edward had been standing near the break room.<\/p>\n

Someone offered him cake.<\/p>\n

He refused.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople who look like me don\u2019t need cake.\u201d<\/p>\n

I had been having a terrible week with Max.<\/p>\n

Without thinking, I replied,<\/p>\n
