I donated bl00d to save my boyfriend after his friends told me he had been in a serious ac:cid:ent. As I left the hospital, I heard someone behind a door say, “I can’t believe she fell for it again.” I said nothing, stared at the br:uis:e on my arm, and pulled out my phone. What I uncovered about our three-year relationship turned that donation into revenge number 96.

“If you truly love me, you won’t ask how much blood they need, so you’ll donate without another word,” was the last thing Brendan said before a nurse pushed the needle into my arm.

Forty minutes later, I walked out of the blood bank at a private clinic in La Jolla, my legs weak, a cotton ball taped to my arm, convinced I had just done something heroic for the man I loved.

According to his friends, Brendan had been in a catastrophic car crash while testing a sports car on a private track near Bakersfield. They called me in the middle of the night, insisting he urgently needed compatible blood to survive.

I didn’t question them. Brendan had been my boyfriend for three years, and I would have done anything for him.

While looking for the elevator, I saw a woman in scrubs pushing a small medical cooler. The handwritten label on its side immediately caught my attention.

My name was written across it in bold marker: Chloe Bennett.

I followed her down the quiet hallway. She entered a side room, pulled my blood bag from the cooler, and dropped it into a red biohazard waste container.

I froze, wondering if the lightheadedness was making me see things.

Then laughter drifted from a nearby VIP suite with the door slightly open.

“I honestly can’t believe Chloe fell for it again,” a voice mocked, making my heart stop.

I moved closer and looked inside.

Brendan was lying comfortably on the bed, his hair perfect, with no oxygen tube, injuries, or bandages anywhere.

He scrolled casually through his phone while Mason, Wyatt, and the same fraternity friends who had sobbed on the phone hours earlier surrounded him.

“Which prank are we checking off with this one?” Mason asked while howling with laughter.

Wyatt raised his fingers and counted. “That makes ninety-six.”

The room exploded with laughter, and I felt the ground disappear beneath me.

“The one with the silver bracelet was peak entertainment,” someone recalled with a grin. “We told her Brendan dropped his anniversary gift in the park, so Chloe spent half the night searching through a torrential rainstorm.”

“She ended up collapsing with a high fever the next day,” Wyatt added.

“And yet she still showed up at his apartment asking if the bracelet had been found,” Brendan’s friend chuckled.

More laughter filled the room, turning my stomach.

They remembered convincing me Brendan was comatose after emergency surgery, sending me to a chapel where I spent the entire night praying.

Then they mentioned the false plagiarism accusation during my final semester at university.

I had spent endless hours trying to prove my innocence and ended up missing my own graduation ceremony.

I had always believed those disasters were terrible coincidences or bad luck. Whenever I cried, Brendan told me I was simply too sensitive.

Then one sentence shattered everything.

“Only three more to go,” Mason declared triumphantly. “Ninety-nine acts of revenge and our deal is officially fulfilled.”

“And what happens right after that?” Wyatt inquired.

“Brendan breaks up with Chloe for good and gets back together with Scarlett,” Mason explained smoothly.

Scarlett.

Hearing her name felt like a blow to my chest.

Scarlett Montgomery had been the favorite to win the regional contemporary dance championship four years earlier. She came from an influential family with private coaches and endless sponsors, so everyone expected her to win.

But I took the trophy.

I was Chloe Bennett, daughter of an accountant from San Bernardino and an elementary school teacher.

I still remembered that night clearly: the applause, my mother crying in the front row, and my father recording everything on his old phone.

I never knew Scarlett had been backstage crying in front of Brendan.

“Chloe stole that championship title right out of Scarlett’s hands,” one of the guys commented.

“That’s exactly why Brendan started dating her in the first place,” another replied instantly. “First he had to make her fall madly in love, and then he was going to make her pay every single day.”

The truth hit me all at once.

For three years, I had exhausted myself trying to be enough. I tolerated his cold silences and subtle humiliations because I believed he simply struggled to show affection.

Then Brendan spoke casually.

“Don’t make such a massive deal out of it, guys. Chloe chooses to get overly involved in everything, so nobody actually forces her.”

There wasn’t a trace of guilt in his voice.

I backed away before anyone saw me and stumbled outside, collapsing onto a concrete bench with my face in my hands.

My phone buzzed.

It was my mother.

“Chloe, your father just finalized the lease for the house in Tucson,” she said warmly. “We’re moving next week, and there’s still plenty of room if you want to come along.”

For months, I had refused because of Brendan.

I looked at the dark bruise on my arm, remembered my blood being thrown away, and thought about ninety-six humiliations that had become private jokes.

“Mom, please save a room for me,” I whispered through my tears.

After I hung up, another message appeared.

Brendan: “Come over tomorrow morning. We still have three things to resolve.”

I didn’t yet know those final three things could destroy far more than our relationship.
