By August, I was tired of the tiny apartment I had rented during our separation.<\/p>\n

I had met her twice.<\/p>\n

I had stopped asking questions about when their relationship had actually started.<\/p>\n

He was no longer my problem.<\/p>\n

At least, that was what I had been telling myself.<\/p>\n

Then Mark handed Vanessa a tall brass lamp.<\/p>\n

A lamp I recognized from his old apartment.<\/p>\n

He pulled a huge television from the back of the truck.<\/p>\n

More boxes followed.<\/p>\n

KITCHEN.<\/p>\n

BOOKS.<\/p>\n

Then one enormous carton labeled:<\/p>\n

MASTER BEDROOM.<\/p>\n

Rachel stared at the screen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re moving in.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can see that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The house wasn\u2019t even ready for me to move into yet.<\/p>\n

The floors had just been sanded.<\/p>\n

Painters were coming Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Most of my possessions were still in storage.<\/p>\n

Apparently, Mark had decided to beat me to my own moving day.<\/p>\n

Then he walked toward the side entrance.<\/p>\n

I leaned closer to the screen.<\/p>\n

That door had a keypad lock so contractors could come and go.<\/p>\n

Mark didn\u2019t knock.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t search for a hidden key.<\/p>\n

He simply walked straight to the keypad.<\/p>\n

Pressed four numbers.<\/p>\n

The light flashed green.<\/p>\n

Click.<\/p>\n

Rachel turned toward me.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe knows your code.\u201d<\/p>\n

I felt cold.<\/p>\n

I had never given it to him.<\/p>\n

Never.<\/p>\n

Mark opened the door and held it for Vanessa.<\/p>\n

She walked inside carrying the lamp as though she belonged there.<\/p>\n

That was the first moment I stopped feeling merely angry.<\/p>\n

I felt invaded.<\/p>\n

I had found that house myself.<\/p>\n

Signed for it myself.<\/p>\n

Stood alone in the empty kitchen after closing and eaten a sandwich over the sink because I didn\u2019t own a chair yet.<\/p>\n

And now my ex-husband was walking through it like he owned the deed.<\/p>\n

Another clip loaded.<\/p>\n

Vanessa stood on my porch and said,<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce the sectional is in, I want to measure the windows for drapes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rachel looked at me.<\/p>\n
