There is something about sitting beneath bright salon lights while another person works around you that makes people talk.<\/p>\n

I have heard clients tell me things they had never told their husbands.<\/p>\n

Their children.<\/p>\n

Their closest friends.<\/p>\n

Sometimes even their therapists.<\/p>\n

I have always kept those stories private.<\/p>\n

For twenty-seven years, what was said in my chair stayed there.<\/p>\n

Until Ashley.<\/p>\n

Ashley was the one story I had to write down.<\/p>\n

My name is Carol Ann Reese.<\/p>\n

For twenty-six years, I was also Carol Ann Eckert.<\/p>\n

That was the name I took when I married Dale Eckert in a little church in Warner Robins, Georgia, the summer before I turned twenty-three.<\/p>\n

Forty-three people attended.<\/p>\n

My aunt made the cake.<\/p>\n

My shoes started hurting before the reception was halfway over.<\/p>\n

And I married Dale because I loved him.<\/p>\n

I really did love him.<\/p>\n
