For months, Rodrigo had insisted he wanted nothing from her family.<\/p>\n

He had even encouraged her to keep their finances separate.<\/p>\n

Valeria stepped backward before anyone could see her.<\/p>\n

She returned to her cabin, locked the door, and sat on the edge of the bed.<\/p>\n

For several minutes, she could barely think.<\/p>\n

The man who had kissed her that morning and called her the love of his life was downstairs celebrating a plan to steal from her.<\/p>\n

Then Valeria remembered something.<\/p>\n

Before the wedding, her father had given her a small emergency phone.<\/p>\n
