He walked around telling everyone how lucky he was to become a father to three daughters.<\/p>\n

Deborah squeezed my arm.<\/p>\n

She didn\u2019t answer.<\/p>\n

I forgot that conversation until months later.<\/p>\n

Until I was sitting on the nursery floor at three in the morning, alone.<\/p>\n

Ava started crying again.<\/p>\n

I picked her up and held her against my chest.<\/p>\n
