Instead, two police cruisers were outside my house.<\/p>\n

My mother, Evelyn Harper, stood on the porch with her arms folded. Beside her, my older sister Melissa was recording with her phone.<\/p>\n

Then I heard a child screaming.<\/p>\n

For the first time, her smile disappeared.<\/p>\n

After the officers left, I told Evelyn and Melissa to leave.<\/p>\n
