Instead, I walked into Marco\u2019s office and found racks of women\u2019s dresses, wigs, heels, a camera on a tripod, and a measuring tape in his hand. Then he turned around, saw me, and froze.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

That was the first thing I noticed.<\/p>\n

Behind him stood a rack filled with women\u2019s clothes, surrounded by heels and carefully styled wigs.<\/p>\n

A full-length mirror stood nearby.<\/p>\n

So did a camera mounted on a tripod.<\/p>\n

For several seconds, my brain simply stopped working.<\/p>\n

Marco had his back to me, adjusting something on a mannequin.<\/p>\n

I stood in the doorway clutching my purse.<\/p>\n

He turned.<\/p>\n

Every trace of color disappeared from his face.<\/p>\n

The measuring tape slipped from his hand.<\/p>\n

I looked around again.<\/p>\n

Cream blouses.<\/p>\n

Black dresses.<\/p>\n

Handbags.<\/p>\n

A makeup station.<\/p>\n

Three wigs resting on mannequin heads.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are you doing here?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

I almost laughed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s your first question?\u201d<\/p>\n

Marco stepped toward me.<\/p>\n

\u201cGigi, I can explain.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou told me you worked with a hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI do.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are women\u2019s heels in your office.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI know.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd wigs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Silence.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd a camera.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI can see that, Gigi.\u201d<\/p>\n
