Ms. Richards allowed the tape to continue.<\/p>\n

Greg covered his face with both hands.<\/p>\n

Dad continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cChloe didn\u2019t abandon this family or ignore your invitations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aunt Sandy stepped closer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat does he mean?\u201d<\/p>\n

Sadie\u2019s voice shook.<\/p>\n

I turned toward Greg.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou said she wanted immediate family only.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are immediate family, Chloe. You\u2019re the closest thing I have to a sister.\u201d<\/p>\n

I faced Uncle Nolan.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreg said Thanksgiving was canceled because you were ill.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe waited for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dad\u2019s voice filled the garage.<\/p>\n

I walked to the television and switched it off.<\/p>\n

The sudden silence felt heavier than Dad\u2019s voice had.<\/p>\n

Greg faced me.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou always made me feel like the irresponsible one,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou had the answers. Dad listened to you. Everyone trusted you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greg stared at her.<\/p>\n
