The woman captured in the security footage was Melissa Grant, one of Jason\u2019s coworkers.<\/p>\n

The instant I saw her face, I knew exactly who she was. She had come to our Christmas party, delivered flowers after I first became sick, and even smiled at me once while saying how fortunate I was to have such a caring husband.<\/p>\n

Detective Bennett explained that a neighbor\u2019s surveillance camera had recorded Melissa waiting inside her car while Jason disconnected the utilities and secured every door. Once he finished, he walked over, handed her a pharmacy bag, and kissed her.<\/p>\n

That bag contained my medication.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy would she want it?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe didn\u2019t,\u201d the detective replied. \u201cThey threw it away at a gas station.\u201d<\/p>\n

Investigators believed Jason and Melissa had expected my condition to deteriorate while he was overseas. Not long before the trip, Jason had significantly increased my life insurance coverage and listed himself as the only beneficiary.<\/p>\n

I felt my stomach twist.<\/p>\n

Police officers arrested Jason at the airport before his flight ever left the ground. His parents and sister were interviewed as well, but investigators uncovered nothing suggesting they had been involved. Jason had told them I would be staying with my sister while they were away.<\/p>\n

Melissa was taken into custody at her apartment. During the search, officers recovered copies of my medical records, insurance paperwork, and messages exchanged between the two of them describing what they referred to as \u201cthe cleanest solution.\u201d<\/p>\n

One message written by Jason read: \u201cWithout the pills, she won\u2019t last long enough to cause trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n
