While folding the towels, I noticed a woman in a hotel blazer watching the rude man from the front desk. She checked the guest list, studied his face, then hurried into the manager\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

I was too upset to think about it.<\/p>\n

Dolly stood beside me, fighting tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid we do something wrong?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, sweetheart. Sometimes adults have bad days.\u201d<\/p>\n

A waiter named Terry approached carrying a wrapped box. Instead of stopping beside us, he walked straight to the man.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Anthony,\u201d Terry announced, loud enough for everyone to hear, \u201cour manager asked me to give you this personally. You are our two-hundredth guest today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthony sat up proudly.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about time someone here showed some class.\u201d<\/p>\n

He opened the package with a smug smile, clearly expecting a prize.<\/p>\n

The moment he saw what was inside, his face turned white.<\/p>\n

The box held a framed newspaper photograph and an old letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur manager recognized your name,\u201d Terry explained. \u201cShe remembered you from an article she has kept in her office for years.\u201d<\/p>\n

The photograph showed a younger Anthony standing beside an elderly woman and two small children.<\/p>\n

\u201cYears ago, you founded a charity for grandmothers raising orphaned grandchildren,\u201d Terry continued. \u201cThat article gave our manager hope during a difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

No one around the pool moved.<\/p>\n

Terry unfolded the letter beneath the photograph.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

\u201cIt was written by one of the women your charity helped.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then he read one sentence aloud.<\/p>\n

\u201cI pray Anthony never forgets the grandmothers who still need him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthony\u2019s hands trembled.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was years ago,\u201d he snapped. \u201cI don\u2019t do that anymore. I\u2019ve changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, sir,\u201d Terry replied. \u201cWe noticed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dolly tugged my hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is he upset?\u201d<\/p>\n

I looked at the woman in the photograph. She could have been me.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe remembered the person he used to be,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n

The manager, Patricia, stepped forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr. Anthony, I need to ask you to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stared at her in disbelief.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy staff witnessed how you spoke to this grandmother,\u201d she continued. \u201cShe is exactly the kind of person you once built your reputation helping.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthony tried to answer, but nothing came out.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I recognized your name,\u201d Patricia said, \u201cI hoped you were still the man in that photograph.\u201d<\/p>\n

He gathered his things, tucked the frame under his arm, and walked away beneath the stares of everyone around the pool.<\/p>\n
