My parents kept encouraging me to build a career.<\/p>\n

I preferred collecting photographs of luxury homes.<\/p>\n

Walter raised one eyebrow.<\/p>\n

For the first time, I wondered whether he understood my real motivation.<\/p>\n

The wedding was scheduled for six months later. Walter promised that afterward we would move into his family mansion\u2014a grand stone estate with terraces, twelve bedrooms, and a library with a rolling ladder.<\/p>\n

I pictured myself walking down its staircase in silk robes.<\/p>\n

Then strange things began happening.<\/p>\n

Walter\u2019s Bentley disappeared.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt became unreliable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A few weeks later, his investment accounts were supposedly frozen because of trust paperwork.<\/p>\n
