I believed him because love can make warning signs seem temporary. But his silence beside that pool revealed the truth: he would never defend me when it mattered.<\/p>\n

I walked to the bandstand and took the microphone. The music stopped as two servers helped my parents from the water.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis wedding is over.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ethan finally looked at me. \u201cClara, stop being dramatic.\u201d<\/p>\n

That was what she believed because I had never corrected her.<\/p>\n
