When Grant came home that evening, I showed him the transaction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat isn\u2019t mine,\u201d he said immediately. \u201cI was in a meeting all afternoon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then he studied me with false concern.<\/p>\n

Using public records and company information, I traced payments from Halcyon Biotech to several suspicious consulting firms. Each transfer remained just below the amount that would automatically trigger an internal investigation.<\/p>\n

One company, Norell Advisory Group, was registered to a mailbox in Naperville.<\/p>\n

Its listed manager was L. Bennett.<\/p>\n

I found three more entities connected to the same address. Every payment had been approved through Grant\u2019s executive authorization.<\/p>\n

He was not simply cheating.<\/p>\n

He and Layla were moving company money through fake businesses.<\/p>\n

When I told Dana what I had discovered, she became serious.<\/p>\n

\u201cYour husband is having an affair, stealing from his employer, and suddenly taking you overseas,\u201d she said. \u201cThat sounds like he\u2019s preparing to blame you.\u201d<\/p>\n

She was right.<\/p>\n

Grant had spent months portraying me as confused and unstable. If the case had been discovered inside my suitcase, he would have claimed that my recent behavior proved I was responsible.<\/p>\n

At the airport, officers removed Layla\u2019s bag and placed it on an inspection table.<\/p>\n

They opened the side compartment and lifted out the gunmetal case.<\/p>\n

Grant\u2019s face went completely blank.<\/p>\n

Layla turned toward him.<\/p>\n

\u201cGrant, tell them that isn\u2019t mine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what you packed,\u201d he replied coldly.<\/p>\n

Her expression collapsed. She had expected him to protect her.<\/p>\n

Instead, he abandoned her the moment she became a threat.<\/p>\n

The officers opened the case. The packets appeared first, followed by the flash drive.<\/p>\n

A security investigator named Marcus Reed approached us. Marcus was Dana\u2019s husband, but he treated the situation professionally.<\/p>\n

\u201cMrs. Harper,\u201d he asked, \u201cdo you know anything about this case?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n

Grant became perfectly still.<\/p>\n
