Hanna arrived first. Steven came shortly afterward. Both froze when they saw Claire at my table.<\/p>\n

Hanna protested that the funeral had already been difficult.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo was being banned from it because you believed a lie.\u201d<\/p>\n

Claire told them everything\u2014the stolen inheritance, the false divorce story, the rushed marriage, and Robert\u2019s plan to keep me away.<\/p>\n

Hanna shook her head. \u201cDad said you couldn\u2019t face his illness.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI attended every appointment until he forced me out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Steven picked up the bank statement. \u201cHe took Grandma\u2019s money?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he returned it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe money matters, but it is not the worst thing he took. He stole your trust in me, and both of you surrendered it without asking one honest question.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hanna\u2019s face crumpled.<\/p>\n
