PART 3: THE WHOLE FAMILY<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Three nights later, Michael\u2019s celebration took place in a hotel ballroom.<\/p>\n

Ashley arrived beautifully dressed and smiling too brightly. Michael kissed my cheek when I entered. Rachel squeezed my arm, and Lily sat taller in her chair when she saw me.<\/p>\n

Then the slideshow began.<\/p>\n

Rachel had not turned it into an attack against Ashley.<\/p>\n

She had simply allowed the truth to appear.<\/p>\n

The screen showed Michael standing beside me as a child at the school fair.<\/p>\n

Then came his graduation, with my hand resting proudly on his shoulder.<\/p>\n

Ashley appeared throughout the presentation because she was part of the family.<\/p>\n

One image showed Noah burying my feet in the sand.<\/p>\n

The final picture captured the three of us standing near the water, laughing so hard that the photograph was slightly blurred.<\/p>\n

It was imperfect.<\/p>\n

Rachel allowed the photograph to remain on the screen for several extra seconds.<\/p>\n

Then Michael walked to the microphone.<\/p>\n

He thanked his coworkers and his sister. Finally, he looked toward me.<\/p>\n
