The investigators arriving at the party were not police officers. They were forensic accountants hired by our company\u2019s minority investors after I reported suspicious withdrawals. Nathan had quietly transferred more than three hundred thousand dollars into a consulting company registered under Brooke\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

He believed nobody would find it.<\/p>\n

He was wrong.<\/p>\n

At 7:15, Nathan called me eleven times.<\/p>\n

I answered the twelfth.<\/p>\n
