Another patrol had found Margaret outside a small bank branch that had closed for the day. She was exhausted and upset but physically safe.<\/p>\n

Relief made my knees weak.<\/p>\n

Nathan spoke immediately.<\/p>\n

She had reviewed the latest wedding transactions and discovered that one of the cards used for the reception did not belong to Nathan or me.<\/p>\n

It belonged to Margaret.<\/p>\n

Her card had paid for part of the venue, the flowers, and several upgrades Nathan had approved.<\/p>\n

Celia told me.<\/p>\n

I lowered the phone and stared at Nathan.<\/p>\n

Kristen stepped forward and suggested that everyone calm down.<\/p>\n

I faced the room.<\/p>\n

Nathan insisted that she had arranged transportation.<\/p>\n

The doors behind us opened.<\/p>\n

Margaret entered with a staff member from her residence.<\/p>\n

Nathan went pale.<\/p>\n

\u201cI rested in the car.\u201d<\/p>\n

He moved toward her.<\/p>\n

Nathan spread his hands.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou agreed to help.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI agreed to discuss it. I never agreed to pay for your wedding.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was temporary.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA loan requires my permission,\u201d Margaret replied. \u201cYou took my cards after I refused.\u201d<\/p>\n

The room fell completely silent.<\/p>\n

I turned toward the gathered families.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe wedding is canceled. The financial activity is being investigated, and I am not confused.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nathan stared at me.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are destroying my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
