Darren did more than apologize.<\/p>\n

He arranged family counseling.<\/p>\n

Then he sat down with Emma and explained something she should never have been forced to figure out alone.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou never have to choose between the people who love you,\u201d he told her.<\/p>\n

Afterward, he turned toward Sarah.<\/p>\n

Sarah nodded.<\/p>\n

To my surprise, she looked relieved rather than hurt.<\/p>\n
