I looked at the man who had remained silent while his grandson was openly humiliated.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo,\u201d I said. \u201cYou let it ruin itself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The manager handed the bill folder to Eric. He opened it, read the total, and immediately turned pale. The steaks, bottles of wine, private-room fee, desserts, and retirement cake had all been placed under his name because he had arranged the order.<\/p>\n

His first card was declined.<\/p>\n

Then the second.<\/p>\n

His wife\u2019s card failed too.<\/p>\n

The same relatives who had laughed when Noah received the hotdog suddenly began reaching for their purses.<\/p>\n
