Three weeks later, my parents came to my apartment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to fix this,\u201d Dad said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t,\u201d I replied. \u201cYou can tell the truth. You can cooperate. But you cannot fix what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dad looked smaller than I remembered.<\/p>\n

\u201cJake told us you were behind. He said you were embarrassed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you believed that because it sounded like me?\u201d<\/p>\n

He looked down.<\/p>\n
