\u201cIt means your boyfriend got scammed while committing fraud,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n

Brandon snapped, \u201cI did not commit fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n

Evelyn handed him a copy of the real deed.<\/p>\n

Six months earlier, after Brandon \u201cborrowed\u201d my property records to help with family tax planning, I had moved the farmhouse into a protected charitable trust. The land could not be sold without approval from three trustees, two legal notices, and my verified in-person signature.<\/p>\n

Brandon had none of those.<\/p>\n

What he had was an old photocopy, a forged authorization letter, and arrogance.<\/p>\n

The fake buyer had convinced him to sign documents claiming he held power of attorney over my estate. Then Brandon wired the three million\u2014not to a valid escrow account, but to Tessa\u2019s \u201cbusiness partner,\u201d who had disappeared that morning.<\/p>\n

Tessa went pale. \u201cYou said the money was safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brandon turned on her. \u201cYou said your investor handled luxury properties.\u201d<\/p>\n
