Patricia listened, then said,<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t confront him yet. A man who replaces you this openly is probably moving money, documents, and power.\u201d<\/p>\n

For two days, they reviewed statements, contracts, company records, and emails. They found a consulting firm called FL Public Relations. It had received huge payments from Salazar Transportes for vague services. Patricia traced it to Fernanda.<\/p>\n

Then came the travel charges: a Miami hotel, private jet deposit, medical bills, luxury purchases, extra cards, and a credit line opened in the marital partnership\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never authorized this,\u201d Claudia said.<\/p>\n

Patricia pointed to a power of attorney with Claudia\u2019s signature. It gave Eduardo control over joint accounts, assets, and international loans. The date was May 8.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat looks like my signature,\u201d Claudia whispered. \u201cBut I never signed it.\u201d<\/p>\n

On May 8, Claudia had been stationed at a military post on the southern border. Logs, reports, photos, and witnesses could prove it.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey forged it,\u201d Patricia said. \u201cThey used your absence to hide it.\u201d<\/p>\n

That night, Claudia called her son, Andr\u00e9s. His voice was cold.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow you want to talk, Mom?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you mean?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDad said you wanted distance after the divorce. He said my family got in the way of your career. That\u2019s why you missed Sof\u00eda\u2019s christening.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat divorce, Andr\u00e9s? Your father and I never divorced.\u201d<\/p>\n

Silence filled the line. Then Andr\u00e9s began to cry. Eduardo had shown him messages Claudia had never written. For two years, Eduardo had not only stolen money and a home. He had stolen her son.<\/p>\n

Andr\u00e9s arrived the next day with an invitation for a farewell dinner at Mexico City International Airport. Afterward, Eduardo, Fernanda, the family, and business partners would board a flight to Miami.<\/p>\n

Patricia smiled bitterly.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow convenient. Everyone involved will be in one room.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company records gave Claudia the weapon Eduardo had forgotten. She remained a co-founder with joint signing authority. Large debts and international expenses required her real authorization, validated by the bank and board. A forged signature would not stand.<\/p>\n

Patricia filed an emergency request to freeze the accounts for suspected forgery, fraudulent administration, misused funds, and risk of asset flight.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the bank acts, Eduardo will know,\u201d Patricia warned.<\/p>\n

Claudia looked at the invitation.<\/p>\n
