Fear has a way of filling in the blanks before we have all the facts. That lesson became very clear the day we spotted a strange, translucent object tangled deep in our dog’s fur. At first glance, it looked nothing like a leaf, a piece of debris, or anything we could easily identify. Its unusual shape and pale appearance immediately caught our attention, and within seconds our imaginations began creating worst-case scenarios. Thoughts of parasites, infections, and unexpected health problems rushed through our minds. The more we looked at it, the more concerned we became. Before long, we were already picturing a trip to the veterinarian, medical tests, and a stressful wait for answers.
