At the banquet, my CEO husband publicly humiliated me for his mistress. I made one call: ‘Terminate the CEO. Seize my estate and repossess the cars.’ His family laughed at me, then 30 minutes later…

The ballroom fell silent when my husband lifted his champagne glass and called me “the most expensive mistake I ever made.” Then he pulled his mistress against his side, kissed her in front of four hundred guests, and waited for me to break down.

I didn’t.

The banquet was meant to celebrate Adrian Vale’s fifth year as CEO of Vale Meridian Group. Crystal chandeliers glowed above the ballroom, cameras flashed, and half the city’s business elite watched from tables draped in black silk. Adrian’s mother, Celeste, sat near the stage wearing diamonds I had paid to insure. His brother Marcus wore a watch purchased through one of my family offices. Even Adrian’s mistress, Vanessa Cole, had arrived in a silver Bentley titled to a company she had never heard of.

My company.

What Adrian did know was that I had spent years staying out of the spotlight, letting him handle interviews, accept awards, and play self-made king while I chaired the private trust controlling his throne.

Adrian smiled down at me from the stage. “Eleanor has always been… supportive.”

Laughter moved through the room.

Vanessa touched his lapel. “That’s a generous word.”

More laughter.

He never noticed that the mansion, the cars, the corporate aircraft, and even the building housing Vale Meridian were owned by Ashcroft Holdings.

My maiden name was Ashcroft.

Adrian raised his glass again. “Tonight, I’m announcing a new chapter. Vanessa will become Executive Vice President of Strategic Development.”

Applause erupted.

I looked at Vanessa. “Congratulations.”

She blinked, disappointed that I hadn’t shattered.

Celeste leaned toward me. “Try to leave with dignity, dear. Adrian has outgrown you.”

That finally made me smile.

I stood, pulled out my phone, and called one number.

“Daniel,” I said when my family attorney answered. “Execute the voting consent. Terminate the CEO. Freeze executive privileges. Seize control of my estate and repossess every vehicle owned by Ashcroft Holdings currently assigned to Adrian or his family.”

Celeste burst out laughing.

Marcus nearly choked on his wine. “She’s lost her mind.”

Adrian stepped down from the stage, grinning. “You can’t fire me, Eleanor.”

I slipped my phone back into my clutch.

“No,” I said softly. “But the person who owns sixty-eight percent of the voting shares can.”
