Part 2
I called my older sister Marianne who drove down from Seattle to help me take charge of my broken life. We documented his ignored phone calls his large financial withdrawals and all his careless social media posts. We hired a family lawyer named Victor Hayes and I quickly filed for legal separation and emergency physical custody. When Daniel finally returned from his trip he found an empty house with no trace of our children. He discovered only divorce papers and a strict court summons waiting on the kitchen counter instead of his devoted family.
Daniel panicked and tried to blame me but even his own friends refused to defend his terrible behavior in court. During our hearing my lawyer presented clear evidence of his abandonment while I was medically vulnerable and caring for infants. The judge granted me primary custody and ordered Daniel to complete mandatory parenting classes and attend supervised visitation. He struggled during his first visits at the family center as he realized how difficult caring for two crying babies truly was. He slowly began to comprehend the heavy responsibilities of fatherhood that he had abandoned.
Our divorce was finalized in Multnomah County and I moved into a modest apartment to rebuild a stable future. Daniel continued his supervised visits and learned how to care for his children without running away when things became stressful. When Lily and Noah turned one year old he attended their small birthday party and expressed genuine appreciation for my resilience. I knew he still had a lot of personal growing to do but my new home was finally filled with joy. I was happily raising my beautiful twins and no longer waiting for anyone
